I have so many stories about deer hunting I could write a book but a few of the more memorable deer hunting adventures stand above the rest. One deer hunting lesson in particular goes back to my early days as a bowhunting novice who had so much to learn I was literally the "babe in the woods" when trying to out smart a deer. While squirrel hunting on a particular ridge I slowly became accustomed to the movements of the local deer and would see several in a few of the same spots at the same times of day so thus began my formulating a plan for the rapidly approaching bowhunting season. One spot I noticed deer at the same time of early evening was clustered around three apple trees. They loved the juicy apple's and payed little attention to me as I walked by at a range of 100 yard's. I scouted the apple trees and noticed a large oak tree not more than 15 yard's from the spot the deer fed. I could feel a plan coming together so opening day of archery season I climbed up the oak tree about 25 feet until I found a wide limb to set on and I settled in to wait on my trophy! Well, they showed up right on time but due to the limb being uncomfortable to sit on I was facing in the wrong direction when the deer decided to come to dinner. For over 30 minutes I sat 15 yard's away from 5 deer trying to figure out how I was going to get turned on that limb without making any noise. I finally said to myself just move slowly and take your shot. I had not moved more than a couple inches when all 5 deer stopped eating, looked right up at me, snorted and were gone. I am just glad no one was there to witness my first try at out smarting a Whitetail deer! deer hunting, bowhunting
