Two weeks until deer hunting season! |

The DNR in my state is trying a new deer hunting strategy for increasing the opportunities for hunters who are into bowhunting and deer hunting by opening the season almost one month early this fall. From what the director of the DNR has said this is an experiment to give hunters who normally only hunt deer during the November and December deer hunting seasons to get out in warmer weather. I have mixed feelings about these additional two weeks of deer hunting season. One is the weather. Unless we have an unusually cold last two weeks of September the warm temperatures will keep the hunters at home and not in the woods because there is no sense harvesting a deer in warm weather and watching the meat spoil because the hunter cannot get the deer to a refrigerated environment quickly enough. The other concern I have is the does with fawns that were born late in the spring need the additional month to nurse the fawns. I understand the reasoning behind this experiment and am curious to watch how well it works.
